Now another major player in world politics has turned its back on conservative rule and the new leader in Japan has come to power with ambitious promises. The new government leader, Yukio Hatoyama, has promised to focus spending on consumers, reduce the power of the bureaucracy and cut wasteful government spending.

Who Is The World’s Coolest Cat?

Top Cat

Can you believe it – go home the other night to find the Pop Doctor  clan transfixed by of all things – Felix The Cat – which somehow managed to find its way onto the tube.
Without thinking – Felix’s hypnotic presence was enough to plant me in my seat for the next 10 mins – as I regailed in the classic slapstick comedy which made this cat so originally (more. . .)

Extraordinary Saturday Videos: Reptilians

extraordinary-thursday1

Goodness gracious, me oh my oh golly gee!   Is it SATURDAY already?? Whoopsiedoodles!  Thursday came and went without so much as a reminder that I had some videos to post!  So it looks like we’re going to have some Saturday videos instead.  And luckily, my mad Photoshoppin’ skillz enabled me to cleverly adjust my normal Extraordinary Thursday Videos graphic, so that the casual observer would have no idea whatsoever that (more. . .)

UFO Hovers Over China City for More than 30 Minutes

It seems that lately there have been more and more sightings of UFOs appearing in blatant fashion over major cities.  If these sightings truly originate from intelligent life not of this world, what should we make of their increasingly bold appearances?  The following  is one such inexplicable mass sighting which occurred just days ago.

At about 10 pm on the evening of August 23, a UFO appeared in the sky (more. . .)

Need Sleep!

As the founder of Time to Get Up Club, I hereby declare that it is not time to get up. In fact, it is time to go to sleep, to have a deep, wonderful, truly restful sleep. The past two nights I have not fallen asleep until morning. The other night it was 5am, last night was 2am. I am really not sure why my sleep is suddenly disrupted, but (more. . .)

Loch Ness Monster on Google Earth???

Natalina wants to believe
I’m going to file this story under….AWESOME!!!  Crypto-enthusiasts are going ballistic about the latest bit of potential evidence for the existence of Scotland’s own Nessie.
Jason Cooke, a reader of The Sun, spotted what just might be the elusive Loch Ness Monster while checking out the Loch on Google Earth. To see the object, enter co-ordinates Latitude 57°12’52.13″N, Longitude 4°34’14.16″W in Google Earth, and zoom (more. . .)

Brian De Palma

Brian_De_Palma

“My films deal with a stylized, expressionistic world that has a kind of grotesque beauty about it.”
Brian De Palma was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA, on September 11th, 1940 to Italian-American parents. Citizen Kane was one of several movies that had a profound impact on him and he subsequently changed his university major from physics to film studies. Whilst at Sarah Lawrence College he had the privilege (more. . .)

Favourite Music Video Clips

Cher

With the proliferation of music video clips – my mind can’t help but hark back to the very first screening of MTV when I was a teen and of course the now iconic “Video Killed The Radio Star” soundtrack by the Buggles.
Since then of course – up and coming performers have come and gone – but their music clips live on.
From Robert Palmer and his “Simply Irresistable” (more. . .)

Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda: Antichrist Superstar 666

jose de jesus miranda

Most people who have the title of Antichrist bestowed upon them do not invite such labeling. Most high profile politicians, charismatic cult or religious leaders, and even some celebrities have earned the title simply through their influence of the masses, or their “fitting” of certain archetypes. But rarely does one grant himself such a notoriously feared moniker. And even more rarely, does one who claims to be Antichrist gain willing (more. . .)

The Addiction

500605803_d4adbb8731

USA | 1995 | directed by Abel Ferrara
Logline: After a brilliant philosophy student is accosted and bitten on the neck by a strange woman she struggles to understand the ethical complications of her affliction with the bloodlust of the addiction.
This is the vampire tale for the intellectually-anemic; soul food for the hungry undead. An existential study of vampirism juxtaposed against the social degradation and moral corruption of (more. . .)

The Elusive Muck Monster

Something has been making waves in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The Lake Worth Lagoon has been the site of some recent strange activity.  It seems that a mysterious creature is swimming just below the surface of the murky water.  Greg Reynolds of LagoonKeepers.org captured a bit video footage of the creature’s wake, and people have been trying to identify it ever since.  Thomas Reinert, a marine expert, studied the footage (more. . .)

Sometimes the law isn’t an ass.

Justice and common sense

Charles Dickens’ Mr. Bumble had harsh words for the law in the context of marital rights: “If the law supposes that… the law is a [sic] ass—a idiot.” Every once in a while, however, in spite of itself, the law produces justice. When this happens the public should rejoice and some jurists wonder what went wrong.
Take the case of Troy Davis, a death row Georgia inmate. Mr. Davis was (more. . .)

The president has to fill in gaps

Feuding isn't helping

It’s not too late to do it right.
Eugene Robinson expressed disappointment in President Obama’s wish to take the middle road and seek bipartisan support for health care reform, acknowledging that attempting to work with Republicans would be expedient, “But we didn’t elect Obama to be an expedient president. We elected him to be a great one.”
The president’s waffling on the issue of a “public option” as a counterbalance (more. . .)

Extraordinary Thursday Videos: Skinwalker Ranch

extraordinary-thursday1

Raise your hand if you saw the dreadfully disappointing movie Skinwalkers. I was so pumped to see the movie because I’ve been an avid follower of the mystery of Skinwalker Ranch, located in northeastern Utah. At this ranch, strange sightings and happenings have been reported for over 50 years.  Sadly, the movie sucked the big one.
The real legend of the place is far more intriguing than the silly (more. . .)

Withnail and I

12258

UK | 1986 | Directed by Bruce Robinson

Logline: It’s 1969 and two disheveled, unemployed London actors decide to spend a rejuvenating weekend in the country only to have their escapade turn into a series of embarrassing incidents and disasters.

Quite frankly I think Bruce Robinson’s semi-autobiographical yarn is one of a rare handful of perfect screenplays. It’s also one of the most moving and affecting films (more. . .)

That’s right, it’s another Snape background. And can I just take this moment to applaud the costume department on Harry Potter? I’ve always loved Snape’s black on black on black robes.

Extraordinary News of the Week (August 9-17)

l_ron-hubbard

This week in Extraordinary News!
Howdy weirdos and weirdettes!  It has been WEEKS since I’ve posted the Extraordinary News!  I’ve been so sidetracked with the little crapfest that life decided to throw at me in the last month that I just haven’t had the energy to research the news of the week. But…. I’m back, and there’s been some really great stuff happening in the land o’ the bizarre, and (more. . .)

Down by Law

Down_by_Law(1986)

USA | 1986 | Directed by Jim Jarmusch
Logline: When three mischievous strangers find themselves sharing the same jail cell after each being set-up, framed or simply acting in self-defence, they escape into the wilderness of the Louisiana everglades.

Maverick indie auteur Jim Jarmusch hit the nail of bittersweet irony squarely and beautifully on the head with this black and white jazz riff on unlikely friendships forged in times (more. . .)
